The In-Store Winery

In-store winery services are known by various names: U-Vint, U-Brew, Brew-on-Premise, Brew-on-Site, etc..

Wine Kitz is a pioneer in bringing the on-site winemaking concept to the market, and we are proud to offer state-of-the-art winery services in our store.

Our state-of the art in-store winery provides you with the ability to choose and make your wines without purchasing equipment and without doing all the heavy lifting associated with winemaking at home. After you sprinkle the special wine yeast, we take care of the rest.

Service Includes: On-site space, use of our equipment, continuous monitoring and quality control of your wine, racking, clearing and stabilizing, filtering. At bottling, service includes the use of our bottle washer, use of our automatic wine bottle filler, free corks and the use of our pneumatic corking machine. Bottle labels and matching shrink tops are available for a small extra charge, to add that finishing touch. We even have personalized labels; great for weddings and other events!

What’s Involved

On Day One, you will select – with our help if you need it – the wine kit of your choice. When paying for your kit and the on-site winemaking fee, you will be asked to sign a bailment contract, which for legal purposes moves ownership of the soon-to-be wine from the store owner to you, and acknowledges that you are making wine for personal use only (not for resale).

You will then be directed to the preparation area within the winery, and the winemaking process will commence. Store staff will pour the liquid content of the kit into a sanitized primary pail. To ensure you are legally making the wine, you will add the yeast. Once your must (wine-to-be) is mixed, we’ll attach a log card with pertinent information such as date started, wine type, contact information etc., and move it into the ‘in-progress’ section of the store with many other full pails and carboys.

…Now, to wait!…

You may now go home and wait until it’s time to bottle your wine (approximately 4-8 weeks, depending on kit type and store scheduling). During this time, your wine will progress through fermentation and clearing; store staff will perform many necessary tasks, which include hydrometer readings, several rackings (transfers), stabilizing, clearing and the final step of filtering the wine.

Bottling Day

At the appointed time, we’ll have your wine ready for you to bottle, which is easy and fun with our automatic bottle filler and corker. Of course you may bring your own bottles to re-use – clean and sanitize them with the use of our automatic bottle washer – or you may purchase bottles in-store.

Note: For a small extra charge, you may also add bottle labels and matching shrinks to finish the look of your wine bottles.

NOTE: In-Store Wineries and the Law

There are several federal laws by which we must abide when operating in-store wineries. For instance, store owner or staff are not permitted to bottle wine on a customer’s behalf. Wine will be set aside until the customer can come in and bottle it personally.

  • Winemakers must be of legal drinking age to use on-site winemaking services.
  • Wine sampling prior to purchase is not permitted.
  • Wine sampling prior to bottling (the day of) is limited to 170ml (five ounces) per batch by the winemaker whose name appears on the contract
  • Winemaker’s assistants must be of legal drinking age.
  • Exchanging wines on–site with other winemakers is not permitted.

We hope to see you in store soon. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
